Spotlight on Inclusivity: ASL Performances
At La Crosse Community Theatre (LCT), we're committed to making live theatre accessible and enjoyable for everyone in our community. As part of our ongoing inclusivity efforts, we are thrilled to announce that we’re expanding our accessibility services with American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performances for our Broadway and Blackbox series shows this season.
To kick off this initiative, we’ll host an ASL-interpreted performance of Oliver! on October 12, 2024, giving deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons a chance to experience this beloved classic with a licensed ASL interpreter who will bring the story to life in a dynamic, visually engaging way. This is only the beginning, as we’ll be offering ASL-interpreted performances for every Broadway and Blackbox production throughout the season. We’re honored to make this commitment to accessibility, creating an inviting and inclusive space for all audiences to enjoy the transformative power of theatre.
This expansion in ASL interpretation is made possible by a generous grant from the Mayo Clinic Health System, a valued supporter of our mission. With their partnership, we’re able to provide these services consistently across our season and bring new experiences to a wider audience. We’re also committed to working closely with licensed ASL interpreters who understand the intricacies of live performance and ensure that the energy, nuance, and emotion of each show are conveyed to Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members.
Whether it’s your first time at the theatre or you’re a regular patron, we invite everyone to join us for these ASL-accessible performances and experience the joy of live theatre in an inclusive and welcoming environment. Our goal at LCT is to foster a theatre experience that reflects and includes our entire community, and we’re excited to see the impact of these performances in connecting us with a broader audience.
