WELCOME TO LCT'S ALTRA STAR ACADEMY!
Star Academy is a dynamic, community-driven initiative designed to spark creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning among students in La Crosse. During the school year, the program focuses on elementary school children, offering an engaging curriculum that blends traditional academics with creative arts, interactive learning, and performance opportunities. Through hands-on projects, storytelling, and collaborative activities, students build essential skills while exploring the arts and sciences in a fun, supportive environment.
In addition to the year-round program, Star Academy transforms into the umbrella name for three distinct summer camps tailored to high school, middle school, and elementary school students. Each camp is designed to meet the unique developmental needs of its age group:
- Elementary Camp: Young learners are introduced to creative expression through team-building activities that lay the groundwork for curiosity and confidence while working on a condensed, children's production.
- Middle School Camp: Participants engage in more advanced projects that combine problem-solving, collaborative performance, and leadership exercises, encouraging them to explore new ideas and build on their existing talents as they work toward putting on a one-hour show.
- High School Camp: This camp offers advanced work in theatre production providing teens with opportunities to refine their skills and prepare for future academic and career challenges by putting on a full musical production.
This multifaceted initiative is made possible through a unique partnership between the School District of La Crosse, Altra Federal Credit Union, and La Crosse Community Theatre. Together, these organizations bring together educational expertise, community support, and creative inspiration to provide enriching experiences that not only enhance academic learning but also nurture the arts and community engagement. Star Academy is dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where every student is encouraged to shine and become an active, inspired member of the community.
Elementary Intensives is a series of themed theatre workshops for K–5 students during the 2024–25 school year, featuring sessions held in both morning and afternoon formats at $25 per class. The program engages young learners through creative play, behind-the-scenes insights into productions like Oliver!, hands-on STEM theatre activities, and collaborative performance projects that conclude with live family showcases.
Star Academy Summer Camps by La Crosse Community Theatre offer an immersive, age-specific theatre experience that provides young performers—from elementary through high school—with comprehensive training in acting, technical production, and creative collaboration.
