2021-2022

Welcome back to La Crosse Community Theatre at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts! Our stages may have been dark during the pandemic, but we have been busy at work planning for a return to live performances. We have strived to stay connected to our patrons through virtual performances and social media this past year. We also conducted a major audience survey to find out what we do well and what we could do better. The resulting season includes the best of what you love about LCT and some new surprises to broaden your horizons.

Broadway on the Mississippi. Our new Broadway Series is what you would expect of the Great White Way, right in our Lyche Theatre. The series is filled with dynamic musicals and compelling plays that will inspire resilience and hope as we celebrate being together again. After the last year we all deserve a good laugh, and we open the season with Blithe Spirit, a hysterical British farce that is sure to tickle your funny bone. This holiday season we will warm your hearts with the granddaddy of all musicals, The Sound of Music. Next up is The Mountaintop, a powerful new drama looking at the last night of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s life. Springtime is a season of renewal, and the rock musical Next to Normal is sure to inspire hope. We close the series with our first summer show for adults, Avenue Q, a hilarious romp that is best described as “Sesame Street for adults”.

Off-Broadway on Front Street. Gritty, raw, and electrifying are just a few words to describe our new Blackbox Series. For our first-ever full series offering in the Veteran’s Studio Theatre, our theme is Women’s Voices. The shows feature all female casts and are directed by women. We open the series with WHO’S HOLIDAY!, the raunchy retelling of Dr. Suess’s The Grinch from grown-up Cindy Lou Who’s perspective. Then the powerful and poignant ‘night Mother explores high stakes mother/daughter dynamics amid crisis. Next up, Single Black Female is a socially conscious and hysterical window into the dating scene from the perspective of two educated, middle-class, black women. Finally, historical true crime gets the rock concert treatment with LIZZIE: The Musical, a brand-new look at Lizzie Borden’s harrowing tale.

Youth takes Center Stage. Our new Theatre for Young Audiences Series is a collection of fun, family-friendly musicals based on beloved children’s books. The Stinky Cheese Man & Other Fairly Stupid Tales, Have You Filled a Bucket Today, The Musical!, Pete the Cat, and Rosie Revere, Engineer & Friends will provide a fun-filled visit to the theatre for your whole family. After seeing these productions, your little ones might just catch the acting bug. They will have plenty of opportunities to perform onstage in our Star Academy summer camps and in a variety of Theatre for Youth productions, including Avenue Q School Edition and As You Like It. We are also thrilled to bring back the Penguin Project with a production of Seussical JR.

As we welcome you back to the theatre, safety will be a top priority for our staff. We will follow the latest CDC, local, and theatre industry protocols to ensure our patrons, volunteers, students and staff are safe. Come join us at the Weber Center for a season with something in store for everyone!
